New FMCSA Data Indicates Continuing Trucking Delays Near Port of Baltimore, Shippers Turn to Experts to Find Coverage, Boost Transportation

The loss of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge is causing increased truck drive times in the region, according to data from both government and private sources. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has confirmed significant impacts on truck trips in the area, based on data from the University of Maryland. This is particularly evident in traffic being diverted through alternative routes. FMCSA’s findings are supported by recent data compiled by Geotab ITS, a business unit of Toronto-based transportation telematics company Geotab Inc. Geotab ITS provided FreightWaves with information showing increased drive times for commercial vehicle traffic through Baltimore’s two tunnels as of January 6, compared to average drive times before the bridge collapse.
