CVSA Inspectors Conduct Hazmat Road Blitz

  • Inspection Overview: The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducted an unannounced five-day Hazmat/Dangerous Goods (HM/DG) inspection and enforcement initiative in June 2024.
  • Inspection Results: Inspectors conducted 3,929 inspections of commercial motor vehicles transporting HM/DG, resulting in 576 vehicles with HM/DG violations. A total of 1,009 vehicles received CVSA decals, indicating no critical violations.
  • Violations and Enforcement: Vehicles with out-of-service HM/DG violations were removed from roadways until the issues were corrected. Inspectors found 116 out-of-service loading and securement violations and 19 HM/DG package integrity (leaking) violations.
  • Jurisdiction Participation: Forty-five jurisdictions participated in the Road Blitz, inspecting a total of 4,095 packages, including non-bulk, bulk cargo tank, and other bulk packages.
  • Undeclared Packages: In the U.S., 93 undeclared packages were discovered during the blitz. Proper classification, packaging, labeling, handling, and stowing of hazardous materials are essential for safety.
