Severe weather struck Florida on Thursday, resulting in at least one tornado causing damage to homes, cars, and businesses. In Clearwater Beach, a likely tornado damaged two homes, though fortunately, no injuries were reported. Debris littered the streets, with a home’s gutter impaling a car windshield.
A 90-year-old woman in Clearwater remained unharmed after her home’s wall and roof collapsed due to the storm. Damage was also reported in Dunedin, north of Clearwater Beach, including downed power lines and structural damage to buildings.
In Crystal River, approximately 65 miles north, another potential tornado inflicted substantial damage to businesses and homes, with no major injuries or deaths, a situation described as “truly remarkable” by Crystal River Mayor Joe Meek.
In Palm Coast, an EF2 tornado with 115 mph winds caused major structural damage to homes in the Indian Trails neighborhood, but fortunately, there were no injuries.
Millions of Floridians were under a tornado watch throughout Thursday afternoon, with the threat of strong winds and heavy rain. The storm system was expected to gradually move into the Atlantic waters during the early afternoon, with rain and thunderstorms persisting through most of Thursday, gradually subsiding into the evening.
